Custom categories, and native support for Sure, Actual Budget and Firefly III

Your own categories

Your bank tags every transaction with an Open Banking code like FOOD_AND_DRINK. Useful, but not how you think about your money. You can now define your own names on top.

The Categories page starts you off with ten themed groups covering every bank code, so there's nothing to set up. From there, rename anything, add or delete groups and categories, drag a category into another group, or drag a bank category over to re-route it.

Your category and its group then ride along with every synced transaction: two new columns in Google Sheets, custom_category and custom_category_group in webhook payloads, two properties in Notion, and customCategory and customCategoryGroup on every transaction from the API. The raw bank category is always kept alongside, so nothing you already rely on changes. YNAB is unaffected, it still maps into your budget's own categories.

New syncs get it automatically. Syncs you already have keep their exact output until you turn on Include custom categories in that sync's settings, so no column appears in your spreadsheet unannounced.

Sure, Actual Budget and Firefly III

Redbark is now a native provider in Sure. Paste a Redbark API key into Settings, Providers, and link your accounts directly. No sure-sync container to run or schedule, and it carries balances and institution metadata, not just transactions. The container still works but it's the legacy path now.

Redbark also runs as a SimpleFIN server, which covers Actual Budget and the Firefly III importer. Mint a setup token in Settings, paste it into the other app once, and it pulls accounts, balances and transactions from then on. This replaces the redbark-actual-sync bridge.

Reads got a lot faster

The per-connection cache that ran as an experiment last month is now the default for everyone. Repeat reads across the dashboard, API and MCP come back much quicker, and syncs lean on your bank less. It's short lived and encrypted, and cleared the moment you revoke consent. There's a switch in Settings, Consents if you'd rather Redbark never held a cached copy.

Replay a webhook destination

If your endpoint returned a 200 but dropped the payload, those transactions were marked delivered with no way to get them back. Webhook destinations now have a Replay everything action that clears the delivery history and re-sends from your start date.

New Zealand banks are live

Akahu's review cleared and NZ banking is open to everyone, on every plan. Connect ANZ NZ, ASB, BNZ, Kiwibank, Westpac NZ, TSB, The Co-operative Bank, Heartland, Rabobank NZ, or SBS Bank, and sync them everywhere your Australian accounts already go. Pick NZ Banks from the Add Connection menu, authorise with your bank through Akahu, and you're away. The full announcement has the details.
